Sarah Kathryn Curtis is an opera singer, scholar, and educator from America’s heartland.
Raised in Kansas City by opera singers, music was an inevitable path for Sarah.
A versatile and spirited performer, Dr. Curtis feels at home in a number of styles, genres, and languages. With a passion for both classical and contemporary music, she aims to continue expanding her repertoire and contributing to the rich tapestry of opera and music as a whole. In the spring of 2024, Sarah performed as a teaching artist with Des Moines Metro Opera. Later that summer she returned to cover the roles of Geneviève (Pelléas et Mélisande) and the Page (Salome). She had the opportunity and privilege to study on a fellowship through the Fondation Des États-Unis which brought her to Paris, France. Her time in Europe allowed her to study both French and German, as well as compete in several international competitions and auditions. Recent projects include a recital of music from the women of the Belle Époque and a summer residency in Maine performing the role of Stefano in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette. Currently based in southern California, Sarah maintains an active studio teaching voice and piano lessons. Next up: performing Catarina in Louise Bertin’s rarely performed Fausto with Opera NEO.
